Domaine Jean Baptiste Ponsot, Rully "Bas de Vauvry", 2023
Elegant Rully from Top Producer
Dry and slightly woody, sublimated by a very elegant and creamy toasted aging.
- 100% Chardonnay
- Aging 12 months in barrels and 3 months of assembly in mass (15% of tank, 20% of new barrels and the rest in barrels of 1 to 4 wines).
STORY BEHIND THE WINE
In 2000, at the age of 20, with boundless energy and perhaps a touch of youthful abandon, Jean-Baptiste embarked on a crazy gamble: he convinced his parents, a winemaking family established in Rully since the 1950s, to start producing their own wines.
Without a doubt, Ponsot is now one of Burgundy's rising stars. Young winemaker Jean-Baptiste Ponsot (born in 1980) already has over twenty vintages under his belt; he took over the reins of the winery from his father Bernhard at the age of twenty. Domaine Ponsot is located in the village of Rully, just south of the famous Côte d'Or. Here, Jean-Baptiste crafts exceptional white wines that can rival giants like Chassagne-Montrachet and Puligny-Montrachet. Almost all Ponsot wines sell out immediately after bottling. This winemaker won't stay under the radar for long. His white wines are already receiving the highest ratings in the Guide Hachette.
"En bas de Vouvry", spanning 3.03 hectares within the Rully Village appellation, was acquired by Jean-Baptiste's great-grandfather in 1910. Previously a meadow, vineyard plantings on this specific parcel only began in 2000 and concluded in 2009.
